OpenSocial Launch to be delayed “a few weeks”

I’m very surprised these Orkut OpenSocial launch announcements aren’t making the news. Today’s announcement by Orkut just has me furious! Today, one day before OpenSocial was supposed to be launched to the public, Orkut pulled the plug and decided they were no longer launching tomorrow, but instead are going to choose a few “select apps” in a testing period that is supposed to last up to 4 weeks. This means that all those companies such as mine that were anticipating a launch tomorrow, all those that spent money, such as mine, to get their apps in the directory by 2 weeks ago at the Orkut hackathon are now stuck in the mud until it officially launches. If Google keeps pulling the date with little notice like this people are going to abandon Orkut and Google altogether. At this point I am now looking forward to the Myspace launch (which will be in a few weeks) and will be developing my app for that, unless there is promise of a launch soon, as was promised. Orkut is really missing out on an opportunity here to be the first market, and perhaps revive what was diminishing in areas such as the USA. I encourage comment from the Orkut team on this, as changing such big plans as this on such short notice is inexcusable!UPDATE: it appears that finally Socialtimes, and then Webware have caught the news.  I should also mention that per the discussion lists, I’m not the only one frustrated about this.
